Auto accident & whiplash

Symptoms often begin hours to days after a collision rather than at the scene.

What whiplash feels like

Neck stiffness and pain

Pain and restricted turning in the neck, sometimes spreading into the shoulders or between the shoulder blades.

Headaches after the crash

Headaches in the days after the accident, often beginning at the base of the skull.

Dizziness

Dizziness or vertigo can accompany a neck strain.

If this is a medical emergency, call 911.

Treating a whiplash injury

Treatment begins conservatively and progresses as the injured tissue tolerates more.

Staged adjustments

Non-force techniques first, progressing as the joints and muscles settle.

Soft-tissue therapy

Graston, kinesio taping and electric stimulation with heat for strained muscle.

Home program

Range-of-motion and strengthening exercises as the neck settles, with biomechanics instruction.

Auto insurance claims are accepted; bring your claim information to the first visit. When the examination calls for it, Dr. Herner orders X-rays, a CT scan or an MRI before treatment begins.
