Services
Dr. Herner builds treatment around the chiropractic adjustment and adds the therapies below as a condition requires. Every therapy in the plan is included in the visit.
Much chronic pain in the back and neck can be attributed to restricted or misaligned segments of the spine. Chiropractic treatment addresses that mechanical cause of the problem.
Chiropractic Adjustment
Adjustments restore normal mobility to restricted spinal and extremity joints, improving posture and flexibility and relieving nerve compression and irritation. Dr. Herner uses a range of techniques, from the traditional high-velocity, low-amplitude adjustment to non-force methods and the drop table, and chooses between them to suit your condition and your comfort.
Spinal Decompression
A slow, controlled, non-force traction of the lower back on a table that decompresses the spine in a straight plane and can add side bending and rotation. It is used for sciatica and other symptoms related to disc protrusions and degenerative disc disease. For the neck, Dr. Herner uses cervical traction, including the Y-strap.
Graston Technique
Instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization: stainless-steel instruments are used to detect and treat scar tissue and restrictions that affect normal function. It is used for acute and chronic conditions including plantar fasciitis, tendonitis and trigger points.
Custom Foot Orthotics
Custom foot supports, made to fit your feet more precisely than over-the-counter arch supports, which tend to be one bell shape, and to correct the biomechanics of your feet and legs. Foot Levelers orthotics are made from a scan taken at a self-guided kiosk in the office, which takes five to ten minutes; they arrive in two to three weeks. A break-in period follows, typically a few weeks.
Kinesio Taping
Elastic therapeutic tape that supports a muscle or joint without restricting its movement, used for muscle, joint and rehabilitative conditions.
Electric Stimulation Therapy
Electric stimulation, combined with heat, eases muscle pain through gentle contractions. It is applied for about ten to fifteen minutes before the adjustment.
Therapeutic Ultrasound
Modalities such as ultrasound, electric stimulation and traction enhance the treatment of other services such as adjustments and decompression. Ultrasound can help pinpoint areas for improvement in the back and neck.
Spinal Corrective Exercises
Stretching, strengthening and balance exercises, some done in the office with resistance and the rest as an independent home exercise program, together with biomechanics instruction: how to move and position your body to avoid injury.
